Which business applications do you use? Are they web based, or local? Here”s our list.
Top Ten
- Google Search – what else?
- Google Mail – works anywhere, great archive capability, unlimited capacity (virtually) and the best Spam management. Perversely it’s biggest weakness is Search, because of those awful “conversations.
- Wordpress (Self hosted) – I love Posterous for its combination of simplicity and capability but Wordpress gives me so much more control, with all those great plugins.
- Twitter – broadcasting and conversation
- Clicky – Monitoring and analytics on steroids with a great iPhone app.
- Google Reader – simple operation, lightweight client for iPhone, interfaces really well with Gruml for a desk top version.
- Google Docs – for writing, spreadsheets, sharing, – all the office stuff, including accounting which I do with spreadsheets.
- Friendfeed – aggregating content, distributing content, search -all work brilliantly simply.
- Google Sites – for accounting I include documents and spreadsheets in pages and also upload .pdf copies of other documents. Sites makes it really easy to keep everything together. It’s garbage as a publishing platform.
- Skype – we have phone numbers in the USA and the UK both of which get routed through to Skype which then passes calls through to cell phones.
