Choosing software built specifically for our vertical market can seem attractive. After all, implementation should be easy, we should have fewer adoption issues and somebody else has figured out all the answers.
But life isn’t as simple as that, as many CRM users have found out.
We should only choose a vertical market CRM solution IF:
- The guys who built it know more about our business than we do.
- We’re happy to be just like our competitors, doing the same things the same way.
- We’re prepared to change the way we work to fit the software.
- We don’t mind the clutter of those features we don’t want to use.
- We’re never going to want to change the business we’re in.
- All of our people understand the decision and agree to accept it.
- The vendor isn’t going to be acquired by a larger business.
- The vendor isn’t going to run out of cash competing with others.
- We’re prepared to put our future in somebody else’s hands
- We don’t care about our Customer Relationships.
If any of these aren’t true, we should accept responsibility for defining our own business processes and using a tool set which lets us implement, and improve them.
If that tool set is Stickies, or White Boards, or Spreadsheets, so what. At least we’ll have a system that lets us look after customers our way.
On the other hand, we might be better off choosing a flexible software package that does the same thing – like Front Office Box.
